Some days just too much noise.
The library is split in half with the adult section on the left side of the building, with a large picture-window reading room full of magazines and newspapers and a huge fireplace and on the right side is the children's side with the Welcome Desk/ Checkout area in the middle as you walk into the library.
Horrendously loud, went one day where they had kids singing their heads off for an hour straight, just watched as people got fed up and left. The selection is minuscule, if you need something at all specific. Terrible place to go if you need somewhere quiet to work
This library is geared for kids (babies to middle school age in particular) to get them excited about reading and wanting to learn with extensive reading programs and special programs and events. They offer different age group Storytimes during the week for babies /toddlers and up, with some weekend Storytimes for families.
As for the Library's Special Progams/Events, they are sponsored by the Friends of the Danville Library, a dedicated all-volunteer non-profit organization. What the Friends of the Library is able to sell at the 6-day-a-week Friends Bookstore or the quarterly Big Used Books and Media Sales in the Library's Mt Diablo Room, the money raised goes to pay for new Library materials and the special programs/events for the community.
Throughout the year, special library events can be cultural, such as Chinese New Year including a Lion Dance, educational, such as Dr Suess's Birthday Celebration, or having Symphonics Storytime, a local youth symphony plays live music and reads a story to babies through early elementary aged school children and have a craft-making activity afterwards.
Yesterday, Symphonic Storytime was reading "Beauty and the Beast" set to the Disney animated musical. Afterwards, the Library provided silver handmade paper mirrors for the kids and their parents/grandparents to decorate and take home.
A nice-multi-purpose well-stocked and well-maintained public library. It serves the community well.
It can get noisy, as other reviewers have noted, but there are signs posted throughout the library informing patrons of the special event and time duration the "noises" will occur.
Beautiful site, great people.
Some of these reviewers just don't have realistic expectations. I find this library quite alright when i need to get work done. I love their little free book caddy by the alcove.
The free 4-hour parking lot next to the Library /Danville Community Center buildings is run by the town of Danville. It can get full fast during the day. Have to park along Front Street or the Front Street Public Parking lot (3 hour limit).
My only con: The library's heavy wooden glass doors don't have an automatic door button for people who are either disabled or have to push a stroller to get inside.
